RS Updates: Barbarian Assault Improvements

0

Some time ago, we released the minigame Barbarian Assault. From your feedback (and from playing the game ourselves) it’s become clear that the rewards were not quite up to scratch, so we have devoted some time to improving them. Although our focus has mainly been on the rewards, we also took this opportunity to alter some small aspects of the minigame itself (though we do also have a long list of other ideas for potential future updates).

The list of changes is extensive, but here are some of the main ones to whet your appetite:

  1. New Penance horn that lets you gain double XP in Agility, Firemaking and Mining (in a similar fashion to the tools from Stealing Creation).
  2. New colours of abyssal whips.
  3. New Penance trident weapon.
  4. Penance armour stat improvement and Prayer restoring set bonus.
  5. Penance gloves now reduce more weight.
  6. Gamble points rebalanced (they still include a rare chance for dragon armour).
  7. Ability to show off your achievements in the roles of attacker, defender, collector and healer.
  8. High score tables for the attacker, defender, collector and healer roles.
  9. Waiting rooms increased in size.
  10. Additional wave room ticket system for saving progress through battles.
  11. Blue penance eggs now reduce the target Penance’s stats and deal damage.

If you speak with Commander Connad at the Barbarian Outpost (you can teleport directly there with a games necklace) he’ll show you all the new rewards, which are also listed on the Barbarian Assault KB page.

Bring on the Penance!

In other news...

The various dwarves of RuneScape have had a visit from the Makeover Mage, who has given their chatheads a new look.

The Soul Wars cape from Nomad’s Requiem can now be stored in your POH costume room.

Activating your special attack bar will no longer interfere with auto-cast timing.

Players will no longer receive activity points in Soul Wars when bandaging players that are already at full health.

Because of the recent snow we've been having, snowballs have stayed frozen for a bit longer than usual. The snow has now gone, though, so you'll find your snowballs will now melt, unless you have the snow globe from the Christmas 2007 holiday event.

RS Updates: Mobilising Armies Polish

0
Since the release of Mobilising Armies, we’ve been in-game and scanning the forums to see what has worked well and what hasn’t. As can be expected from a project of this complexity, some things didn’t quite pan out how we intended. So, we’ve made a few amendments that we hope will create a better gaming experience:

The Conflict scenario has changed from 4-player to 2-player
The idea of the Conflict scenario was for players to consider a variety of tactics and to really engage in an all-out battle to the death. There turned out to be one unwanted and dominant tactic, however: wait for the other teams to beat each other up, then join in later when you have the advantage. Although you could argue this was a legitimate tactic, we didn’t feel that doing nothing for a few minutes was any fun. We considered a great many options to fix this, but decided to change this scenario (and only this scenario) to make it 1 versus 1.

Squad levels removed
Mobilising Armies was built with five levels of squad that you could purchase as your Rank increased, which allowed larger amounts of reward credits. The issue with this was that it led to far too many waiting rooms (4 scenarios x 5 ranks = 20 rooms) and, with each room requiring 20 players, we needed 20 x 20 players for a game to start in each room. Even if games started more quickly, there would not be enough players available, so to simplify the waiting rooms, we have changed it so only one level of squad is available. If you previously had higher-level squads in your inventory or bank, you will find them gone and your credits reimbursed as investment credits. This will hopefully make it easier for people to experience all four scenarios.

Waiting room system improved and five simultaneous games
Twenty players are required for a game of Mobilising Armies to start, and, when a player doesn't get picked, they get an increased priority for the next game. Originally, only four out of those twenty players were picked to join a game at a time, but we improved this a little while back so that three games started at any one time. This was only a temporary fix, so five games will now start simultaneously, as soon as there are enough players.

Selling reward items back
When buying rewards, many players felt the best idea was to save up their reward points until they had increased their Rank and unlocked the best rewards, neglecting the earlier rewards. We want you to make use of the lower-level rewards, so you can now sell reward items back to the reward shops in the officers' tower for 100% of their initial cost. This should encourage you to buy the rewards as and when you can afford them, since you can upgrade them at no extra cost. The only exceptions to this are the resource locators and quest kits (which remain a partial trade-in), and spoils of war.

Quest Guide: Fur 'n' Seek - after quest/mini game - Wish List

0
After you have completed Fur 'n' Seek, there is a mini game which can be played once a week. There is a wish list which is pasted against the Odd Old Man's shack wall.

Difficulty: difficult - depends on your level - for me (a lvl 136) it was easy.

Length: long - as you need to kill lots of monsters

Requirements:
  • Slayer lvl 78
  • Hunter lvl 55
  • Be able to enter the Ancient Cavern ( for Mithril Dragons)
  • Depending what monsters you kill and where you kill them, will determine what additional requirements are needed.
  • The ability to fight a level 320 monster.
  • High combat is advisable.

Recommended items:
  • Varrock teleports
  • Other teleports
  • 1,000 gp
  • Entrance fee to Brimhaven dungeon (875gp) or Shilo gloves
  • Food - sharks or monkfish
  • 20 Pot of vinegars - buy from Fortunato in Draynor market
  • 20 logs - any type
  • Tinderbox
  • Armour and weapons
  • Super set
  • hatchet
  • Witchwood icon
  • Antifire shield and elemental/mind shield
  • a pot

Wish List:
  1. Foot bone of a large ape-like creature.
  2. Sabre-like teeth.
  3. Long, sharp claws.
  4. Fibula bone of the third leg on an adult three-legged creature.
  5. Very large hand.
  6. Tail-bone of 9 different members of the dragon family.
  7. Neck bone of a camel.
  8. Shoulder of a Giant
  9. Spine of a giant snake.
  10. Pelvis of a four-legged, magic-casting water creature that dwells in caves.
  11. Femur of a large follower of Bandos.
  12. Humerus of a large tortoise.
  13. A Golden Fleece.

Monsters needed to kill:

  1. Once you have gotten the fleece and all the bones (cleaned it with vinegar in a pot and put on the fire pit) and handed them all to the Odd Old Man, you will be required to kill a level 320 monster, a Skeletal Horror.
  2. Come prepared for battle.
  3. I recommend wearing high melee defence armour and prayer mage and using melee weapons. It is pretty easy to kill the monster this way.
  4. During the battle, part of the Skeletal Horror will fall off. Bury these parts as it will reduce the combat level of the monster.

  5. The combat levels of the monster is: 320, 260, 180 and 100 providing you bury the parts that break off during battle.
  6. Once the monster has been killed, speak to the Odd Old Man.
  7. If you have either the Bonesack or Ram Skull Helm in your bank, ensure to bring it along. If you don't, the Odd Old Man will ask you to fetch it.

Rewards:

Bonesack(e) or Ram Skull Helm(e)
10,000 Slayer Experience
7,000 Prayer Experience

The Skeletal Horror can be attacked once a week for additional experience after the quest has been completed. The Bonesack(e) and Ram Skull Helm(e) let you teleport to the arena after the skeleton has been reconstructed.

Barrows: Doubled teamed.

1
Last night I was happily doing Barrows when I got doubled teamed by one of the brothers... the worst one. I got an item on my first trip, Dharok's platelegs. I thought that it was a sign of something good to happen. On my 10th trip (and no further items), I was a bit two-minded about doing that last trip as I was getting tired.

Off I went hoping for one more item ... running around the tunnels in barrows looking for the door to the chest room when Dharok finds me. What I usually do when I find Dharok or Karil in the tunnel, I go back through the doors I came to recharge prayer and then go out and kill them. Well, I did that and another Dharok appeared. This is the 3rd time it's happened to me and it's happened with Dharok on all 3 occasions. I get attacked by both Dharok's. Just as I'm about to kill the one Dharok, my prayer runs out and they both hit me...and I found myself in Falador.

I rushed back to the bank to get some teleports and food and rush down to Barrows, but I had forgotten to take a spade so had to teleport back to the bank. I finally made it to Barrows again... and I'm soooo close to where I died... and my 5 minutes run out.

Jagex really need to fix that bug and a 5 min grave (the best one) is just not long enough if nobody is prepared to bless it. So yeah, I lost my items... and now I'll have to do Barrows again until I get them all back again. *sniff*.

I'd really love it if a 10 min grave was introduced.
